Tendring Freecycle is a new branch of Freecycle.org which went live on 11th March 2006 Freecycle is an international organisation dedicated to reducing the amount of waste being disposed of in landfill sites. The ethos is that one man's trash can be another man's treasure, and we hope that the residents of Tendring will embrace this idea and start Freecycling.
Freecycle.org began in America, Tucson, AZ on May 1st, 2003 and has gone from strength to strength. It is an international organisation dedicated to reducing the amount of waste being disposed of in landfill sites. Elaine Smith and Sheila Hammond, are the co founders of Tendring Freecycle. Elaine is a Reiki master/teacher, and also works at Clacton Police Station. She is a firm believer in everything and everyone being connected on our planet and is therefore very committed to reducing waste, for the good of the earth and future generations. Sheila is a full time carer for her elderly mother and also fixes and renovates computers for friends and family, again to try and reduce the amount of PCs that are disposed of every year. During a recent interview on local radio Sheila said "I am committed to reducing the amount of waste, especially electrical items which can often be fixed or used for spare parts. My current car came via a friend who saw it advertised on London Freecycle. Our ethos is that one man's trash can be another man's treasure, we hope that Tendring will embrace this idea and start Freecycling." Freecycle can be used to advertise anything that is no longer of use, from cars to carpets and TV's to tin whistles. Members can also place wanted ads, as someone out there may have just the thing you are looking for sitting in a cupboard or attic. It is very simple to become a member just go to the site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tendringfreecycle/ and follow the instructions best wishes and happy freecycling Sheila Hammond open source open mind |
